CSM Philosophy
Classical
Model
The classical model used at CSM incorporates
a Christian worldview. Historically, Christian worldview has served
as the foundation for constitutional democracy, religious freedom,
tolerance, and many other aspects of modern civilization. CSM presents
this perspective in a culturally sensitive and appropriate manner,
e.g., by teaching truth, beauty, and goodness using a variety of
sources, including the Bible. All of this is done with full knowledge
and approval of parents and government authorities.
At the primary and secondary levels, classical
pedagogy is well-qualified to achieve these objectives in a traditional
Muslim society. The classical model has been employed successfully
for more than two millennia in a wide variety of cultures and
situations (Greek, Roman, Muslim, and Western European) to produce
men and women who can think critically, reason scientifically,
and express themselves publicly. Students learn to love “the
art of learning,” and are equipped by the school’s nurturing
environment to serve their neighbors and their nation.
Purpose
of Education
Classical School of the Medes (CSM) believes
that the purpose of education is to preserve, refine, and transmit
values from one generation to the next. Since education is not
complete until the student has been taught how to learn for himself
and how to express what he has learned, CSM seeks to provide an
exceptional educational opportunity for students to enable them
to develop into a generation with the knowledge, skills, and passion
to help their nation reflect and honor God.
Program Goals
The goal of CSM is not simply to create
and resource schools, but rather to impart to the nation of Iraq
a tool they can use to help reform and rebuild their society.
Regarding
the past- instilling a sense of respect
Regarding
the present - injecting a sense of responsibility
Regarding
the future - inspiring a sense of destiny
Guiding
students in the joy of lifetime learning, thinking, and self-expression
Guiding
students to love and serve God, their family, and their nation

Medes Mandolin Orchestra
In 2007, the CSM Mandolin Orchestra performed perhaps the first ever mandolin

sunset, a crisp quarter moon, and the sparkling city lights of Sulymania.
