CSM Program Staffing
Team
members are recruited, trained, and deployed to serve on either
a short, mid, or long-term basis. Because CSM is an English-based
program, new staff are able
to communicate
well
with students and teachers immediately upon arrival.
Team
members actively engage in relationship and ministry with neighbors,
teachers, students, and their families. A foundation for many
relationships is established by teaching one or two courses on
a semester basis at the school. Beyond the classroom, numerous
and varying opportunities exist depending on ministry needs and
team members skills/desires. Living in Northern Iraq
Northern Iraq presents a unique opportunity for service and ministry.
Travel to Northern Iraq is much simpler than just a few years ago with
direct flights into the region now available
from several major European cities. Cell phones, international calling,
and internet/email access have become common conveniences.
North
Iraq is relatively peaceful and secure. Kurds exhibit a strongly
favorable disposition towards the West, and
Americans serving in North Iraq are able to freely walk city
streets, shop at well-stocked grocery stores or more traditional
bazaars, frequent restaurants and parks, visit sites of historical
significance, and journey to surrounding areas for picnics and
hikes. Training & Deployment
Prior to deployment, curriculum and cross-cultural training is provided
by Servant Group International's (SGI) home office staff in Nashville,
TN.
Team members
typically raise personal financial support for travel and living
expenses. Support-raising is a relatively easy process conducted under
the
guidance of SGI, a registered 401(c)(3) non-profit Christian organization.
The budget for a typical 6 month term of service is $12,500. Two-year
and long-term budgets are determined on a case by case basis. Team Positions
Team members arrive on-site prior to the start
of Fall and Spring semester, and usually teach one or two
courses per semester; the balance of their time is spent in relationships
with students, student families, and community contacts. Courses taught
include math, science, humanities, literature, art, music and PE.
